Is The Way We Categorize Cannabis Meaningless?

Updated: Apr 30

Hello my canna-family. Todays debate is regarding the way we categorize the flower we both all know and love CANNABIS. If you know dabble is the art of sparking up a jay you know that in most dispensaries and people have cannabis in the three categories indica, sativa and hybrid.

Sativa is said to have more of an energizing effect. Meanwhile indica is known to be the complete opposite. This strain originates from the Hindu Kush mountains of India. It's believed to have a relaxing on the user, while a hybrid is the combination of the two.

Amos Elberg, head of data science at Confident Cannabis, these terms are more or less meaningless. Not only him but many other experts inn this industry are reconsidering the three categories.

“We see samples of all cannabis products tested through our partner labs, and when we look at all the data, particularly of the chemical makeup of flower, we see no identifiable characteristics that are consistent with indica, sativa, or hybrid,” he explains.

“Essentially people are using these terms as catchalls for effect, but they’re not all consistent with those effects. Some indica makes some people wired, not couch-locked, for instance.”

So please don't be alarmed if "sativa" mellows you out and "indica" make you feel like dancing the day. Even knowing all this keep in mind that some people get paranoia no matter the strain so please be careful.
